Numerous environmental influences (e. g., intensive solar radiation, pollution, but also stress) damage the cells of our body, in particular the skin cells. These influences affect their structure and function and may cause them to transform into cancer cells.
The main source of cell damage are the so-called free radicals, which are highly reactive atoms or groups of atoms produced upon reaction of oxygen with distinct molecules. Radicals can be produced internally through metabolism or can be of external origin (UV-radiation).
